@Artsegrelles is its name on Instagram and It seems that the owner of this account have built a stong community of art passionates and art lovers ! But who is really Oscar Segrelles ?
Let's find that together..
Arty Lab : Among your professional experiences, what is the one that you like the most ?
Oscar Segrelles : I don’t have that much professional experience, I was an intern for Pace London, that was fun, but in big galleries you don’t learn as much as in a small one. I have also helped my dad in several occasions, he would try to teach me as much as he could. But what I like the most about working in the art world are the art fairs. Art fairs are very fast, the opening nights are crazy. I was recently helping a Spanish gallery in The Salon: Art & Design Fair in New York, and I talked with a huge amount of people in one weekend, it’s a non-stop pace and it’s so much fun.

Arty Lab : What is your plan for the next months ? Would you like to go back to Spain ?
Oscar Segrelles : In January I will start an Internship in the Contemporary Art department of Sotheby’s in London, I will be there for a few months and then I hope I find a real Job. My dream is to live and work in Spain, so I hope I will go back one day. Now I’m studying abroad to learn about the international market and to create my network and I know this will be useful for my future career.
Arty Lab : In your opinion, do you think the art market will change with our generation ? If yes, how ?
Oscar Segrelles : The art market changes every 10 years completely, my grandfather wouldn’t know how to deal with art nowadays, even my dad is confused in a way. Our generation is living the boom of the art fairs, that’s the future. Also, the online market is yet to show its potential.
Arty Lab : What are your favorite artists ?
Oscar Segrelles : That’s the most difficult question to answer for an art lover. I will try my best. So, my father and my grandfather showed me all about the Spanish art market and its artists, I guess I’m a bit biased. I would say for XIX century my favorite artist is Joaquin Sorolla, for his use of the light. From the XX century, it would be Picasso, for his influence on the art world. And Finally, Contemporary Artist…. That’s too hard, because I know so many and I like them all. I really Like Sam Gilliam, Manolo Valdes, Secundino Hernandez, Cai Guo-Qiang, Banksy... so many !
La niña y el mar - Joaquin Sorolla (1863-1923) Blue nude - Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Manolo Valdes (1942-Present)
Arty Lab : Can you tell us a little bit more about your Instagram account ?
Oscar Segrelles : So, at one point I started to be very interested in contemporary art and, as everyone nowadays, I felt like sharing pictures of what I liked. I knew most of my friends wouldn’t enjoy me posting art everyday so I decided to create this account. I started posting old pictures or photos that I found online, because I didn’t have the chance to visit many galleries or museums. I want to share my knowledge and my experiences with everyone that is interested in them. I think it’s a great responsibility to keep producing good content, so, I have always taken it seriously. Now that I have a decent amount of followers is even more pressure on me, I feel like people trust me and are expecting a lot from me. That’s why I try my pictures to be always perfect, and I do research about the artwork before I post anything. It takes me about one hour to prepare the picture and the caption.
Thank you Oscar !
